When does it become appropriate to tell a person that their hopes and dreams just aren’t in their life plan?

We always tell our children that they can be whatever they want to be.  They can be doctors, lawyers, teachers, football players… anything.  The possibilities are endless.  We tell them with hard work and perseverance they can accomplish their dreams.  But what happens when limitations (whatever they may be) make those dreams realistically impossible?

This thought came to me last night as I watched Real Housewives of Atlanta.  Kandi Burruss, formerly of Xscape, has been trying to make a solo career happen for the last ten years.  While she’s a talented songwriter, she can not sing worth a gotdamn. When will it become appropriate to sit her down, hand her a Moleskine and a pen, and tell her that she should give up the ghost?  Sanging just isn’t in her life plan. It’s not for her.

While I don’t know the way to go about doing this tactfully, I really wish someone would do her this favor.  And do it quickly. Save her the embarrassment. Save the viewers their hearing.

(Dude, I totally hope I didn’t jinx myself.  I’ll be so pissed if someone told me certain shit wasn’t in my life plan.)
